Do you ever wonder what the big deal is about music?  Like everyone else, I have listened to a lot of music in my lifetime.  Growing up with mom and dad, rock and roll from the ‘50’s and ‘60’s was always on the radio at home.  On the school bus, some of the kids would entertain the whole bus with the contemporary pop music of the ‘80’s.  Through high school and college, I liked many kinds of music for various stages.  For a few years here or there, you could find me listening to polkas, country (old or new), classical (instrumental and opera), and even heavy metal.  There is something about music that entertains the soul;  but to be honest, that musical entertainment never really satisfied me.  It left me longing and searching for … something more.

That more is not the stuff that entertains, or goes into my soul, but rather the stuff that comes out of my soul.  Music is a big deal because it is a way that God gave us to bring passions out of our heart and share them with others and, more importantly, share them with Him.  My favorite music will never be “good enough” to be downloaded on an i-pod or sold on a CD to entertain others, but it comes out of me and is pleasing to God and satisfies my soul.

“Praise the LORD!

Sing to the LORD a new song,

And His praise in the assembly of the saints…

Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

For the LORD takes pleasure in His people…”

Psalm 149:1,4
