Contrary to popular belief, many billboard slogans, and a host of sermons, prayer does NOT work.
Prayer will not bring rain, sunshine, or snow. Prayer cannot grant a safe trip, provide for needy families, or bring money to the poor. Prayer does not heal diseases and sicknesses. Prayer will not give comfort or cause the home team to win. Prayer does not even cause revival, bring repentance, save sinners, or help missionaries.
So, if prayer does not work, you might ask why I pray. I pray because God is great. I pray because God is good. I pray because God listens. I pray because God cares. I pray because God works. I pray because I like to talk to God, the One who can and will do all of these things that prayer can never do.
Prayer does not work, so pray to the One who does.
