If you are in a windstorm, you should run for cover. If you are in an earthquake, they say you should stand against an interior wall. If you are in a fire, you should “stop, drop, and roll.” These are all immediate and certain responses. But what do you do when you are confronted with a “still, small, voice”? Running and seeking shelter cannot protect you!
The story of Elijah in the cave on Mount Horeb is very well known (1 Kings 19:9-13). We are all looking for directions in life and wondering where we should be and how we should serve God. We would like to receive those answers in a profound and clear way, like in an earthquake, windstorm, or fire. But be thankful that God spares us these and usually sends His directions for us in a “still small voice”.
