“And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, ‘Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all: for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.’” Luke 21:1-4
When Jesus and his disciples were at the temple, many marveled at the grandiose offerings of the wealthy. Jesus, on the other hand, pointed out the offering of the poor widow, a meagre two mites. For all practical purposes, the value of the two mites was useless by itself. But to God, it was worth more than an ounce or even a full pound of gold. God does not measure our gifts in terms of human value, the value that we stamp on a coin, print on a bill, or assess at the markets. He judges our gifts and offerings in terms of our heart’s desire. If our desire is for God, whatever we give, no matter how small, is valuable beyond human measure to God.
What will you give to God? Give Him the desire of your heart.
