Many years ago I went white water rafting with my siblings in Colorado. It was fun. I can’t say it was “thrilling” or “exciting,” because it was a beginner course and our guide knew every rapid by name and safely conducted us through each one without mishap. The only surprise of the trip was when our guide was thrown from his seat in the back of the boat and flew between my sister and I. It begged the question, “what do we do if our guide goes overboard?” We never needed to answer that question. It was fun.
What interested me the most about this excursion were our guides in the rafts. On the way to the shop, I imagined a bunch of college kids looking for a way to make some money for the summer. This was partly true, some were college students, but they were more than that. These were a bunch of kids who loved to white water raft. They did not just take tours down the one river in Colorado. They were ambassadors for their sport, having been all over the mountain states, and some internationally, doing what they love to do, white water raft. Our guide in our boat was a second generation guide for the sport and told us about how his dad had taken him. They were excited for what they did.
I hope the same can be said about us Christians. If we really love our Lord Jesus and have received salvation by faith, why not live our experience all over the land where we live and beyond? Let’s live the Christian life with passion, sharing its joys and triumphs with our children and anyone else we encounter. Let’s be ambassadors for Christ!
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints — and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”
