Good and Fresh

What would you do if you had a cup of bad coffee in your hand and a pot full of good coffee?  Would you try adding just a little bit of good coffee to the cup to bring it up to the brim?  Would you add good coffee to the bad coffee and just keep filling it until the mixed coffee runs all over your hand, down the side of the cup, and everywhere else?  Would you drink the bad coffee half down and then add good coffee to make your cup full of a blend?  OF COURSE NOT!  If you had a cup of bad coffee in your hand, you would dump the bad down the drain, wash it clean, and fill your clean cup up, new and fresh!

That is how God wants to work with us.  We tend to go about our life and get into messes and troubles.  These are partly because of the sins that we commit and partly because of the sins that our peers commit and partly because of the curse of sin that has been in this world ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden.  All of these problems accumulate in our cup of life like bad coffee.   God wants to replace our problems – bad coffee – with His grace – good coffee.  And what do we do with our cup when God approaches us?

We try to add a little bit of God’s grace to top off our cup full of problems.  THAT DOESN’T WORK!  We try to dilute our problems by blending them with His grace.  THAT DOESN’T WORK!  We try to get rid of some of our problems while holding onto other problems and then we try to add God’s grace to our half empty cup.  THAT DOESN’T WORK!

The only way for God’s grace to work in your life is for you to empty your cup completely and let Jesus clean it.  Dump all your problems and troubles at the foot of Jesus’ cross for cleansing and let God’s marvelous grace fill your clean cup up, new and fresh.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just

to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from

all unrighteousness.”  1 John 1:9
