God Gives
If You Watch The Commercials And Advertisements This Time Of Year, You Will Soon Find Out That Christmas Is Not About Receiving, But About Giving. Therefore, As The Slogans And Jingles Will Remind Us, It Will Be Imperative That We Go Online Or Wait In Line At Department And Specialty Stores To Purchase More And More Goods To Give Out. As We Will Take It Upon Ourselves To Reform Our Grinch-Like Ways Within Our Family And Overcome Poverty In Our World With Toy Drives And End-Of-Year Charitable Donations, We Will End Up Losing. We Will Lose Our Money. We Will Lose Our Sense Of Purpose. We Will Even Lose Our Love. And So, When December 26th Rolls Around, Having Failed To End World Hunger And Having Failed To Purchase Our Way To Satisfaction, We Will Again Go Back To Doing What We Are All Good At, Working Hard To Receive A Little Reward.
And That Is Why So Many People Have A Satisfied Feeling About Thanksgiving. There Is No Cultural Expectation For Us To Give More. There Is No Collusion Between Corporations And Media To Motivate Us With Guilt. The Whole Idea Of Thanksgiving Is Not Based On What Is Expected Of Us, But On What Has Been Given To Us. And Isn’t It Nice To Sit Back With Family Or Friends After A Big Meal And Take Inventory, Not Of What We Have Done Or What We Have Given, But Of What God Has Done And What God Has Given. And When We Add It All Up, God Is Very Good At Giving, So Much Better Than We Can Ever Be.
“Oh, Give Thanks To The LORD, For He Is Good!
His Mercy Endures Forever.” Psalm 136:1
“Rejoice Always,
Pray Without Ceasing,
In Everything Give Thanks;
For This Is The Will Of God In
Christ Jesus For You.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
