Empty Your Pockets

I took my daughter to the park yesterday to play.  I found a couple neat looking rocks.  Out of habit, I picked them up and put them in my pocket.  When it was time to go, I reached in my pocket and found my two little rocks.  I tossed them back onto the playground.  My daughter asked why I got rid of my rocks.  The short explanation is because I did not need them at home so I would leave them where they belong.

The long answer is that those neat looking rocks are the temporary treasures we find and accumulate as we live out our lives here on earth.  In the decades and years God gives us here, it seems like we accumulate a lot of temporary treasures that are delightful to keep in the pockets of our homes, real estate, and bank accounts for just a little while, for a matter of years, maybe decades.  But these temporary treasures have no place in an eternal place like heaven.

When it is time to go home, there is no need for two more stones about the house.  Neither do we need our temporary treasures when it is time to go home to be with Jesus forever.  Empty your pockets now before God empties them for you.
