I saw a headline about how women are flocking to register to vote now that there is a woman presidential candidate who is decidedly for abortion.  It got me thinking about mothers in this world that we live in.

When I think of mothers, I think of women who have a desire and that desire is for one thing more than anything else, a desire for their children.  This mother’s desire is both natural and precious.  This desire begins even before she can feel her own baby moving in her womb.  And her desire grows, day by day, through good times and bad.  Yes, there are days that a mom will struggle to understand why she ever made such a commitment.  But then there will be those other days, sometimes on the same day, when something will happen and a mom, like a momma bear, will reveal her passionate love for her child.  And this precious desire grows throughout life and continues to grow even after her children leave the house.  The mother’s desire continues even into those days when it is time for the children to take over the part of caretaker.  There never was a perfect mom, but that precious and natural mother’s desire that she shares has a way of nurturing a child, building a family, and making a stable society.

And so it is grievous to watch as our society throws away that precious mother’s desire.  Girls no longer want to be mothers. Why bother when they can grow up to be pop stars, business executives or wrestling champions?  The natural and fulfilling desire to hold a newborn baby in her arms has been tragically replaced by the satisfaction to jump on the abortion bandwagon with all of her peers and proudly proclaim liberty.  This liberty is, ironically, rebellion against the very fact of life that brought the would-be mom into existence, her mother’s desire.

Now as we approach another national election, there is something more pressing than whoever will be in the White House come January.  What our country needs now more than ever is something so natural that we usually take it for granted, something so precious that only our beloved mothers could pass it on to us.  Our country needs more respect and honor for a mother’s desire.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed.”  Proverbs 31:28

“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.”

Romans 1:26
