The two kids fighting on the playground have a common enemy.  So why are they hitting each other?

The mother and rebellious teen age daughter have a common enemy.  So why are they yelling at each other?

The two politicians have a common enemy.  So why are they slandering each other?

The neighbors in a feud have a common enemy.  So why are they avoiding each other?

The husband and wife in a quarrel have a common enemy.  So why are they blaming each other?

The old men and women at the diner have a common enemy.  So why are they starting rumors meant to shame?

We Christians all know two names for our common enemy, Satan and the devil.  So why are we, the people in the pews, upset with one another instead of being upset with Satan and his lies?

Satan knows that he is defeated.  Satan knows that he has no chance to win a battle against God.  So, Satan logically looks for an easier way to destroy us, God’s image.  Although Satan is our common enemy, Satan works in such a way that we divide and fight amongst ourselves.  Satan turns us against God in the process.  And it works, all too well.

Next time you get in a fight with your neighbor, friend, child, spouse, or even rival, stop and reconsider.  No matter what has taken place, you have a common enemy.  His name is Satan.  Stop listening to Satan and carrying on the hate.  Team up with God and love your neighbor.

“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.  For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”  … “For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother.  And why did he murder him?  Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.”  … “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren.  He who does not love his brother abided in death.”  1 John 3:8, 11-12, 14
