It’s so hot that I saw a crow at the drug store the other day buying peroxide. He said he was going to try to bleach his feathers.
It’s so hot that instead of using lighter fluid and charcoal to get the grill up to temperature, I am using cold water and ice to get the grill down to temperature.
It’s so hot that Hulett kids had to stop playing in the new splash pad in town. The splash pad will host a crawfish boil next Saturday.
It’s so hot that our chickens are laying hard boiled eggs.
It’s so hot that the spring calves have stopped frolicking in the pastures. Instead, they are slumbering contentedly after over-dosing on warm milk.
It’s so hot that even our sweet corn is beginning to pop.
But on the serious side, it’s so hot that grass fires are likely to start anywhere and at any time. If you live near one of these fires or if you are fighting to put one out, there is nothing funny about it.
Speaking of fires, I have been preaching through the minor prophets in the Bible lately. It is interesting that judgments of fire are mentioned many times in these books. This means two things. First, the Israelites and other peoples of the ancient near east were familiar with fires of destruction when God sent His prophets. Second, the judgment of the LORD is fierce and terrible, like a raging fire, and is nothing to laugh about. God’s judgment should be taken seriously in every place and generation. Living in the west and being exposed to fires on a regular basis, we of all people, should understand the severity of God’s judgment and avoid it at all costs.
God’s final and ultimate judgment for sin is in the fires of Hell. These fires were made by God for Satan and his fallen angels (Revelation 20:10) and will be the final and eternal destiny for any sinner who has not placed their faith in Jesus Christ (Revelation 20:11-15).
So, how serious are you about God’s final fiery judgment of Hell? Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone, or are you more concerned about growing your ranch, building your house, and adding to your collection of toys? When the fire comes, all of these will be consumed. Don’t let the fires burn you, too! God’s final judgment of Hell is so hot that you cannot put it off any longer. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today and be saved from the fires of Hell!
“And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life,
he was thrown into the lake of fire” Revelation 20:15
