What are some of the benefits of being saved? (continued…)

Ephesians 1:3-14

  1. He gives us an inheritance (11) that is guaranteed (14),

I love looking out the window, if I can, when flying in an airplane.  I think that the top sides of the clouds are marvelous.  I also like to look down at all of the “major” improvements that man does on this earth to show off his wealth.  Off in the distance last week, as we flew out of Chicago, I could see the famous Chicago “skyline.”  They say (a recent google search) that the value of the largest tower, the Willis Tower, itself is around 1 billion dollars.  (Coincidentally, the corporate headquarters of the airline I was on is located in that building!)  $1 billion seems like a lot of money,  considering I could hardly see the building from my perspective, as the plane went up into the heavens above.  And then, do you ever wonder how long those big skyscrapers will last?  What will they be like 100 years from now, or in 200 years?  Will they endure the many tests of time?

To be sure, if you were to offer me an inheritance, I would want something that is better than $1 billion and bigger than the tallest skyscraper in Chicago, or in any city on this earth.  I would want an inheritance that is bigger than every city on this earth and even bigger than this earth and even bigger than the universe in which we live.  Also, I would want an inheritance that doesn’t last for a few hundred or even a thousand years.  I would want an inheritance that lasts forever and ever and ever.  And with Jesus Christ as my Savior and God as my Father, that is just what God promises us who are saved.
