Most Important
Someone won’t be at church this morning because they had a late night last night and need some extra sleep. But our quantity of sleep is not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because their parents were hypocrites and made them go as children. But the genuineness of our parents is not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because of what the pastor said last week, or maybe because of something he didn’t say. Anyway, the pastor is wrong about something. But the pastor is not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because the weather is right and the labor is available to get some extra chores done. But chores are not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because of what she overheard in a conversation last week. But rumors and gossip are not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because they have friends visiting for the day. But friends are not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because they are going to the ball game. But sports are not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because they don’t know what to wear. But the clothes we wear are not most important.
Someone won’t be at church this morning because the music is too loud, too soft, too slow, too traditional, too contemporary, too exciting, or too boring. There is something about music that we can never all agree on. But, no worries, our music is not most important.
Yes, the church and we the people of the church have a lot of problems, but those problems are not most important. God is most important. Let’s gather together at church and let God be most important. And when we focus on what is most important together, those other things – the things that are not most important – will find a way to tend to themselves.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:33-34
