RATHER PRAY

1.         Do not pray because the preacher says you “have to.”  Rather pray because you                “love to” talk with God.

2.         Do not pray because you are a good Christian.  Rather pray because you are a                   broken wretch in need of Christ’s forgiveness.

3.         Do not pray because the clock says that it is time to pray.  Rather pray because                 time is of the essence, and you cannot waste your time doing anything else.

4.         Do not pray because you are losing a battle.  Rather pray because Jesus already                 won your victory.

5.         Do not pray because you got that new book, How To Pray.  Rather pray because               you desire to obey God’s word.

6.         Do not pray because you memorized the words.  Rather pray because you have                 something in your heart that God needs to hear.

7.         Do not pray because you want a new job, a new car, or a new house.  Rather                       pray because God is all that you need.

8.         Do not pray because things are a little rough.  Rather pray because your life and               the world are in ruins and you cannot go any further    without the Holy Spirit.

9.         Do not pray because it is your turn to volunteer.  Rather pray because nobody                   else will.

10.       Do not pray because it might work.  Rather pray because God is anxious to get                 to work.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may

obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:16

“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly

that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years

and six months.  And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain,

and the earth produced its fruit.”  James 5:17-18
