When I Am Weak
Do you ever have one of those conversations with somebody else, and you are sure that you are right, but you just can’t figure out how to say it in a way that is convincing? Meanwhile, the other party waxes eloquent at truth’s expense and you feel weak, helpless, and ready to quit.
Don’t worry. Every argument has its weakness. Even Christianity has a weakness. I think it is me!
If you ever feel this way, you are not alone. It happens to the worst of us. But one thing we have to remember is that truth is truth. There is nothing we can say or do that makes truth any truer. With Christianity, we have to remember that God does not need us to prove His word to be true. His word is already true. All we need to do is speak His word and let God do the rest.
It reminds me of when I was little and my mom would send me upstairs to call my siblings to the supper table. They wouldn’t come and they would get mad at me, and I would get mad at them. I would then come back downstairs all upset and then my mom would get upset with me, too! And then she would say, “I only told you to call them, not to make them come. I’ll make them come.” And mom had the authority and a way to make all of us obey! That’s the way it is with God. He only expects us to be heralds and messengers of the good news. God will do the rest. We do not have to compel others by twisting their arms, citing stupendous syllogisms, or using big, impressive words. In fact, if we take the truth of Christ into a ruthless world and appear weak, we might actually portray a better picture of what Jesus came to do. He came to save sinners who are weak, not to congratulate the perfect and proud.
“Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches,
in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Ahh, this has been happening a lot lately. Some are learning they really don’t know everything and when I say,” I know this for a fact “, that I really do…and I didn’t have to prove it, God did for me.
