Ambassadors
I think the job of an ambassador would be quite exciting. Imagine living in another country and another culture while working at the same time to bridge relations between two nations. An ambassador for the United States is directly responsible to the secretary of state and would have the responsibility to meet with leaders of the foreign government and help to negotiate agreements. The ambassador’s presence in a foreign country is designed to promote positive international relations while he or she assists in other necessary duties like communication, monitoring, development and protecting U.S. citizens.
With that being said, I imagine that some ambassadors are more busy than others. For instance, on our ambassador to Canada’s website are articles about recent happenings in his office. Regarding Canada, there was an article about a new system to promote the safety of U.S. travelers (3 days ago) and another article about promoting climate-action and inclusive education exchanges (9 days ago). The article before those two was dated over a month ago and regarded something about “pride” and the LGB+ movement. In my opinion, our ambassador in Canada is not very busy.
Now, contrast the workload of our ambassador in Canada to our ambassador in Israel. The last item of news on our ambassador to Israel’s website was a security alert issued a few days ago in response to Iran’s launching of around 200 missiles at Israel that day. Among topics in the security alert was a link for steps to take in case of mortar or rocket fire. Prior to that security alert was a plea for a cease fire 4 days prior and two more security alerts issued only days before that. Needless to say, our U.S. ambassador in Israel is more than just busy, there are lives on the line in Israel!
As Christians, we do not have to dream about being ambassadors in a foreign land. We are ambassadors right where we live. We represent the Kingdom of God. We answer directly to our King, Jesus. With that in mind, I ask you, Mr. or Mrs. Ambassador, what is the state of affairs in the land in which you serve? Is your represented territory on this earth in a state of spiritual peace or spiritual war? Look around. Do you see the missiles Satan is launching at the church? Do you hear the Devil’s barrage on our few remaining families? Now is the time to issue a security alert. Sound the general alarm! No longer can you sit back smugly in church as though you were enjoying a vacation in Canada. Get to work and use your appointment as ambassador to go forth with a message that will save people’s lives!
“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore…” Ephesians 6:12-14.
