What are some of the benefits of being saved? (continued…)
Ephesians 1:3-14
- God adopts us (5),
To follow up yesterday’s commentary, I have to say that we are doubly blessed as parents. Not only did we have 3 natural born children, we also adopted 3 children and we love them every bit as much. To be sure, there is something scary about bringing a strange kid into the home and trying to adapt together. But after many months of adaptation … when the appointed day comes to take the whole family to the courthouse … and when the judge confirms the details about names and time together … and when the judge proclaims the adoption complete … and when the whole family gathers in the courtroom for pictures to be taken, there is a sense of joy and completion as the family bond becomes official.
I love what the legal adoption decree says. Here is my favorite part:
“…and said minor child shall be entitled to exact from the petitioners all of the rights and privileges of a natural child from her natural father and mother.” Even though adopted children come into a home in a different way, they are guaranteed by the authority and declaration of the state all the rights and privileges of a natural born child.
In the case of salvation, we are not naturally born as God’s children. Quite the opposite, we are sinful sons and daughters of Adam. But when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Father adopts us into His family and gives us by His authority and declaration every right and privilege reserved for His only begotten Son, Jesus.
