What are some of the benefits of being saved? (continued…)
Ephesians 1:3-14
- He shares with us the riches of His grace (8, 11),
When it comes to riches, there is something we all have in common. It doesn’t matter if we live in the USA or in Uzbekistan. It doesn’t matter if we are poor or rich. It doesn’t matter if we are male or female. It doesn’t matter what color our skin is, what size feet we have, or what shape our noses are. When it comes to riches, we all want more.
Don’t you want more zeroes behind the numbers in your bank accounts? Don’t you want better food on your plate? Don’t you want newer clothes? Don’t you want to travel more, relax more, entertain more, and purchase more? Don’t you want more land, more livestock, and more feed stored up for winter? Don’t you want more resources? Don’t you want more of the things hard work affords but so hardly grosses? And what could be better than all these earthly riches that everyone, including you, desire more of? Heavenly riches!
And when we are saved, God opens up His heavenly storehouses and does just that. God lavishes upon us spiritual riches that we could never earn of our own accord. God provides for us a spiritual inheritance that is only available for His born again and adopted children. This is what grace is all about. On this earth, we must earn our daily bread by the sweat of our brows and abundance is fleeting. But as God’s child, His grace (unmerited favor) is overwhelming and the spiritual blessings, of which this entire passage in Ephesians is about, come upon us eternally.
Do you want more? Quit working for the things that perish and always abound in somebody else’s hands. Get saved and inherit the abundant and heavenly gifts that only God’s grace can provide! “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19-20
